Miami Elmiron Lawyer

Elmiron (pentosan polysulfate sodium) is prescribed to treat bladder pain caused by interstitial cystitis (IC). Many patients who suffer from IC experience chronic bladder pain and pressure, and they understandably want relief. Elmiron is the only drug available to treat IC bladder pain, but scientists do not even fully understand how it works. It is believed to stop bladder pain by creating a protective barrier on the bladder wall to stop irritants in urine from resulting in bladder inflammation. The serious downside to taking Elmiron is that it may cause pigmentary maculopathy, according to Drug Watch. If you have suffered any sight loss, including blurred vision or trouble seeing in low light settings, since you began taking Elmiron, you may be able to file a lawsuit against the manufacturer, Janssen Pharmaceuticals, for failing to warn you about the potential vision damage that their drug causes. The Miami Elmiron lawyers at Spencer Morgan Law can help you throughout this process, and will ensure that your best interests are carried out during the legal process.

Studies Involving Elmiron

According to ConsumerNotice.org, a 2018 study was published in Ophthalmology that documented six cases of possibly avoidable maculopathy that was linked to taking Elmiron. Further studies came to similar conclusions. As a result, in 2019 the manufacturer Jassen Pharmaceuticals put a warning about pigmentary maculopathy with chronic use on Canadian labels. However, they failed to notify American consumers until June 2020. Despite these studies, there has been no push from The U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to further investigate or recall Elmiron and Jassen Pharmaceuticals has not issued any voluntary recalls.

In general, any person who has been taking Elmiron for two years or more and has experienced vision issues such as the ones listed above could be eligible to seek compensation. Even if you have not been taking the drug for two years but notice worsening vision problems, it is worth exploring other possible medications and speaking with an attorney.
